DMD stands for Doctor of Dental Medicine, one of two dental degrees in the United States alongside DDS. The two are equivalent, with the same accredited four-year training and licensing exams. Dr. Magid earned his DMD at the University of Pennsylvania in 2002.

The Foundation
Where did you study dentistry?
After graduating from Brandeis University in 1998, Dr. Magid earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2002, then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Columbia University in 2003. He finished a two-year implant residency in Englewood, New Jersey, in 2017, and has been an AAID Associate Fellow since June 2021. He is also a certified Invisalign provider and a member of the Academy of General Dentistry.

Implant Training
Can a general dentist place implants?
Yes. Implant dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty, so a general dentist with the right surgical training can place and restore implants. Dr. Magid’s two-year implant residency was that training. Today, he plans each case from a cone beam CT scan and places and restores the implants himself, including bone grafting, sinus lifts, and full-arch All-on-4 treatment. Implant consultations are complimentary, so you can ask him about your own case first.

The Credential
What is an AAID Associate Fellow?
Associate Fellow is a credential awarded by the American Academy of Implant Dentistry to dentists who document their training and experience in implant dentistry and pass the Academy’s examinations. It is an examined credential, not a dental specialty. Dr. Magid has held it since June 2021 and is listed in the AAID member directory, where you can confirm it yourself. It shows documented implant training beyond dental school, which anyone can verify.

The Beginning
Why did you decide to become a dentist?
Dr. Magid decided to become a dentist while in college. He was always interested in science and biology, and he liked gadgets and using his hands to fix things. Dentistry sounded like a great fit that would let him combine all his passions.
Outside the Office
Outside of the dental office, what do you like to do?
Dr. Magid and his wife, Maren, have three children, and the family loves hiking together. You will often find him making pizza in one of his multiple pizza ovens or smoking BBQ, and he has even taken part in a few professional competitions.
