Crowns
A lab-made crown covers a tooth that is cracked, heavily filled, or treated with a root canal, usually over two visits. Before it is cemented, the crown is cleaned and primed so the bond lasts longer.

Restorative Dentistry
Repair, Rebuild, Replace
A cavity, a crack, a worn edge, or a missing tooth never improves on its own, and the longer it waits, the bigger the repair. Dr. David Magid, DMD, repairs what can be saved and replaces what cannot with tooth-colored fillings, crowns, bridges, root canal therapy, extractions, dentures, and dental implants, all handled in our office.
Book OnlineEvery repair starts with a comprehensive exam and an itemized quote before anything is scheduled.

From the first X-ray to the final crown or implant, the planning, treatment, and restoration happen under one roof, with nitrous oxide, oral, or IV sedation available if you want it.
Restorative Services

Learn MoreTooth-Colored Fillings
Tooth-colored fillings repair a cavity or a small chip in a single visit, and we place them here in our office. Here is what to expect.

A filling is a repair that replaces the part of a tooth lost to decay or a small chip. Dr. Magid removes the decay, then rebuilds the tooth with tooth-colored composite resin, shaded to match your enamel and bonded directly to the tooth. Because it bonds, it seals the tooth tightly and blends in when you smile.

A filling for one tooth usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, and the tooth is repaired before you leave. The appointment runs like this:
Two or three fillings in the same area are often done in one visit.
Repair Comes First
A small cavity can grow until it needs a crown, a cracked tooth can reach the nerve and need a root canal, and a tooth left untreated too long may need to come out. Each step up takes more time and more of your tooth, so the earlier we see it, the less we have to do.
Fillings, crowns, and root canal therapy keep your own tooth in place whenever enough of it is left to work with.
Implants, bridges, and dentures fill the gap so you can chew and smile with confidence. Implants also help protect the bone underneath.
When several teeth are worn, broken, or missing, full-mouth reconstruction plans every repair together, in the right order.

A chipped tooth or a lost filling rarely hurts at first, which is exactly when it is simplest to fix. Should it start to hurt, swell, or break, we see dental emergencies the same day, including new patients.

After Your Repair
A well-made filling or crown can serve you for years, and what you do at home makes a big difference.

A crown or bridge cannot decay, but the tooth under it can. Clean the gumline every day, and use floss threaders or a water flosser under a bridge.

Grinding can crack a crown or a filling. A custom nightguard helps protect your repairs and your natural teeth if you clench or grind.

Ice, hard candy, and popcorn kernels can break restorations and natural teeth alike. After a filling, wait for the numbness to wear off before you eat.

Every exam checks the edges of your fillings and crowns, so a worn edge is caught long before the tooth under it is in trouble.

Repair Your Smile
From a single filling to a whole new bite, the first step is an unhurried exam with Dr. Magid and a clear plan you understand before anything is scheduled.

Common Questions
Simple answers to the questions we hear most about repairing and replacing teeth.
Yes, in most cases, and the sooner the better. A general dentist can rebuild a decayed or broken tooth with a filling, crown, or root canal, and Dr. Magid does all three here. A tooth split through the root is removed instead, with its replacement planned first.
By how much healthy tooth is left. A filling repairs a small or medium cavity or chip when the tooth walls are strong. A crown covers the whole tooth when a large filling, a crack, or a root canal leaves too little structure. Dr. Magid shows you the X-ray.
We save the tooth whenever it can be saved. A root canal removes the infected nerve, and a crown then protects the tooth, usually the better choice when enough sound tooth remains. Extraction is right for a split tooth or decay below the gum, and we plan the replacement first.
Three: a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture. An implant replaces the root as well as the crown and leaves neighboring teeth untouched. A bridge is fixed but rests on the teeth beside the gap. A partial denture is removable. The implant consultation is complimentary.
Yes. Dr. Magid offers nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. IV sedation is provided in our office by Dr. Jonathan Mendia, DMD, a visiting dental anesthesiologist from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Tell us which option you're considering when you book, and we will plan your appointment around it.
Usually in part. Many PPO plans pay part of fillings, crowns, root canals, and extractions, up to a yearly maximum. We are in-network with Delta Dental and file other PPO claims for you out-of-network. Your quote after the exam shows your portion, and CareCredit and Cherry offer monthly payment options.
