Dental Implants, From Start to Finish

A dental implant replaces the root as well as the tooth. Dr. David Magid, DMD, plans each case from a cone beam CT scan and places and restores the implant himself. Your implant consultation is complimentary.

Why Choose Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth?

An implant is the only replacement that works like a tooth from the root up. A titanium post is placed in the jaw, the bone bonds to it over a few months, and a custom crown is fixed on top. Nothing rests on the neighboring teeth, and you chew, speak, and smile with ease. A bridge or denture replaces the tooth you see; an implant also replaces the part you do not.

Dr. Magid completed a two-year implant residency, from 2015 to 2017, covering surgery and restoration. Every case is planned from a cone beam CT scan with a surgical guide, using the BioHorizons system, and bone grafting, sinus lifts, and sedation are available here.

How Dental Implants Work

What Disqualifies You for Implants?

Few things rule out an implant for good. Untreated gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, certain medications, and radiation to the jaw can delay or complicate one. Most are managed rather than final: gum disease is treated first, your physician’s advice shapes the plan, and thin bone can be rebuilt with a graft or sinus lift here. Age alone is not a barrier.

The way to find out is with a complimentary consultation. Dr. Magid examines the site, takes a cone beam CT scan, reviews your health history, and tells you plainly whether an implant fits, grafting comes first, or an implant denture suits you better.

Benefits

Benefits of Dental Implants

A patient smiling after dental implant treatment at Magid Dental Care

An implant is anchored in bone, so it handles the force of chewing. Steak, apples, and corn on the cob are back on the menu, with no slipping, no adhesives, and no food caught under a plate.

Bone needs a root to stay put. After a tooth is lost, the jaw under the gap begins to shrink, and an implant stimulates the bone the way a root does, helping keep your bite and your other teeth in place.

A bridge relies on the two teeth beside the gap. An implant stands on its own, so those teeth stay untouched and easier to keep clean, and a bridge remains an option when an implant does not fit.

Cared for like a natural tooth and checked at every visit, an implant can last for decades, and the crown on it can be replaced without disturbing the implant that sits underneath it.

The scan, planning, surgery, any grafting, and the final crown all happen here with Dr. Magid, so nothing is lost between two offices and you always know exactly who to call for help.

Dr. Magid provides nitrous oxide and oral sedation, and IV sedation is provided here by Dr. Jonathan Mendia, DMD, a visiting dental anesthesiologist from Rutgers, so even a full-arch case is comfortable.

Our Process

How Does Getting an Implant Work?

  1. A patient having a cone beam CT scan at Magid Dental Care

    Step 1

    Consultation and 3D Scan

Dr. Magid examines the gap and nearby teeth, takes a cone beam CT scan that shows the bone in three dimensions, and reviews your health history. You leave with a plan, the options that fit you, and an itemized quote. The consultation is complimentary.

  2. Dr. Magid placing a dental implant with a surgical guide

    Step 2

    Guided Implant Placement

The implant goes exactly where the scan planned it, using a surgical guide, under local anesthetic with nitrous oxide, oral, or IV sedation if you choose. The tooth can often come out, and the implant can go in at one visit, with grafting done here when bone is thin.

  3. A patient at a healing check after implant surgery

    Step 3

    Healing

Over the next three to six months, the bone bonds to the implant, a process called osseointegration. Most patients return to normal routines within a few days, and we check the site along the way. All-on-4 patients leave surgery with temporary teeth the same day.

  4. A finished implant crown being checked in a patient's mouth

    Step 4

    Your Final Crown

Once the implant is solid, a digital scan replaces putty impressions, and a lab makes your crown to match the teeth around it. Dr. Magid fits and adjusts it himself. After that, it is brushed, flossed, and checked like any other tooth.

FAQ

Dental Implant FAQs

Who can place implants, how much they hurt, how long they last, what they cost, and whether insurance helps you.

Yes, with the right training, and that training is what to ask about. Any licensed dentist may place implants, so surgical training matters. Dr. Magid completed a two-year implant residency and has been an AAID Associate Fellow since June 2021. He places and restores implants himself.

Less than most expect, and usually less than the extraction before it. The area is fully numb, and nitrous oxide, oral, or IV sedation is available. Afterward, soreness usually responds to over-the-counter pain relievers within a few days, and Dr. Magid reviews aftercare with you.

In many cases, for decades with daily cleaning and regular checkups, though the crown may be replaced along the way. Gum infection, uncontrolled grinding, and smoking shorten an implant’s life, so we check your gums every visit and fit a nightguard if you grind. Planning starts with a cone beam CT scan.

For most healthy patients in their 70s, yes. Age alone is not a barrier; your general health, jawbone, and ability to keep the implant clean are what count. An implant can replace a loose denture or failing bridge so you can eat comfortably. We review all of it together.

It depends on what the fee includes. A single implant has four parts: the scan and planning, the surgery, the abutment, and the crown, and grafting adds to it. We do not publish prices since each case is unique. Your itemized quote follows the consultation, and CareCredit and Cherry can spread the cost.

Sometimes, in part, depending on your plan. Delta Dental plans differ on whether they cover the implant, only the crown, or neither. We are in-network with Delta Dental; check your plan first, and show the estimate on your itemized quote. CareCredit and Cherry apply to implants.
