A full-mouth reconstruction is a plan that rebuilds your teeth, bite, and smile when many teeth are worn, decayed, missing, or failing. Dr. David Magid, DMD, plans it from a 3D scan and does every stage here.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction
A full-mouth reconstruction is a single treatment plan that restores most or all of the teeth in both jaws in a set order, so the finished mouth is healthy, chews well, and looks natural. It suits advanced gum disease, many decayed, broken, or missing teeth, teeth worn flat, failing old dental work, or a collapsed bite.
We plan it from a cone beam scan, a digital scan, and a tooth-by-tooth exam. Dr. Magid treats the gums, saves the teeth that can be saved, places the implants, and makes the final crowns and bridges, so the bite is designed once by the dentist who finishes it.
Usually several months to about a year, because the mouth is rebuilt in stages and each stage has to heal before the next. The gums come first, then any extractions and implants, then the final crowns, bridges, or full-arch teeth once the implants have fused with the bone, which takes about four months. A reconstruction built on crowns and bridges alone can be finished in a few months.
You are never left without teeth, because temporary crowns, bridges, or same-day temporary teeth on implants carry you between stages. We set out the schedule visit by visit at your consultation, so you know the months involved before you commit.

A Different Dental Experience
A reconstruction takes months of visits, so the same dentist plans and finishes it, from start to end.

The Building Blocks

Nothing is built on infected gums. Scaling and root planing, with the laser where it helps, comes before any crown or implant, and the gums are rechecked before the final work is made so it lasts.
A sound tooth with a dead or infected nerve gets a root canal and a crown. A tooth that cannot be saved is removed here, with bone grafting and sinus lifts available when an implant will follow.
Where a removable option suits your mouth or budget, a full or partial denture is made to your face, or a snap-in implant denture on two to four implants stays put. Dr. Magid shows you each option with a quote.
The bite is balanced so the new teeth meet evenly. Natural teeth are whitened before the lab work is shaded, veneers finish front teeth where you want them, and a nightguard protects the work if you grind.
Our Process

Step 1
Dr. Magid starts with your goals, then examines every tooth, the gums, and the bite with a cone beam scan and the intraoral camera. You get a written plan in stages with an itemized quote. Consultations for implants, crowns, and veneers are complimentary.

Step 2
Gum disease is treated, teeth that cannot be saved are removed with the sockets preserved, root canals are done on those that can be, and temporaries protect everything while it heals. This stage is never skipped, because it makes the final work last.

Step 3
Implants are placed using a surgical guide made from the scan, with bone grafting or a sinus lift at the same visit if needed. For a whole arch, All-on-4 gives you fixed temporary teeth the same day, and the implants fuse with the bone over about four months.

Step 4
Lab-made crowns, bridges, and final implant teeth are tried in, matched, and fitted, and the bite is adjusted until the new teeth meet evenly. A nightguard protects the work if you grind, and regular cleanings and checks keep it lasting.

FAQ
Learn what a reconstruction costs, how it differs from full-mouth implants, and how insurance and sedation work.
It is the sum of the treatments in your plan, so it depends on how many teeth are involved and whether they are rebuilt with crowns and bridges, implants, or full-arch teeth. Your itemized, staged quote follows the exam and scan, and CareCredit and Cherry financing are available.
Not quite. Full-mouth implants replace all the teeth in an arch, usually with All-on-4, when natural teeth cannot be saved. A reconstruction is the wider plan, which may keep and rebuild some teeth and replace only the missing ones. Dr. Magid places and restores the implants himself.
No. Temporary crowns and bridges are fitted the day teeth are prepared, and All-on-4 patients leave implant surgery with fixed temporary teeth the same day. Where an implant has to heal before it can carry a tooth, a temporary fills the gap in the meantime.
Partly. Dental plans have no reconstruction benefit, so they pay their usual share of each procedure, such as crowns, root canals, and gum care, up to the annual maximum. We are in-network with Delta Dental, file claims for other PPO plans, and map your stages against your plan year.
Yes. Dr. Magid provides nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation for long visits is provided by Dr. Jonathan Mendia, DMD, a visiting dental anesthesiologist from Rutgers. Sedation can turn three visits into one, and you will need a ride home after oral or IV sedation.
A reconstruction rebuilds health and function first, including gums, bite, and broken or missing teeth. A smile makeover is cosmetic work on a healthy mouth, such as veneers, bonding, and whitening. Many reconstructions end with cosmetic steps.
