A porcelain veneer is a thin shell bonded to a tooth to change its color, shape, or length. Dr. David Magid, DMD, designs and places each set himself. The consultation is complimentary.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells bonded to the front of the teeth that show when you smile. One set can correct worn or short teeth, deep stains that whitening cannot lift, chips, small gaps, and uneven or slightly crooked teeth. The porcelain is glazed, so it resists coffee and red wine, and it is translucent like enamel, so it does not look like a cap.
Dr. Magid plans the work before any tooth is touched, choosing the number, length, shape, and shade of the veneers to suit your face and bite. A thin layer of enamel is removed, a digital scan goes to the lab, and he bonds and adjusts the veneers himself, usually over two visits.
Patient Education
Active gum disease, untreated decay, heavy grinding without a nightguard, and teeth too worn or broken to hold a thin shell can all rule out veneers for now. Each has an answer, such as gum treatment or a filling first, a custom nightguard, or a crown on a tooth that needs more support. A real bite problem is corrected before veneers are considered.
You are a good candidate if your teeth and gums are healthy, and your concern is color, shape, size, or small gaps. Dr. Magid gives you a plain answer, including when bonding or whitening would do, and the consultation commits you to nothing.

Benefits

Worn or short teeth, deep stains, chips, small gaps, and an uneven look can be corrected together by one set of veneers, where separate treatments would otherwise be needed for each concern.
Glazed porcelain resists coffee, tea, and red wine better than natural enamel or composite. It will not whiten, so any whitening is done before the shade is chosen, and a cleaning keeps the edges bright.
Length, shape, shade, and proportion are chosen to suit your face and age and to work with how your teeth meet, so the result reads as your own teeth, not a row of identical white ones.
A veneer needs only a thin layer of enamel removed from the front of the tooth, far less than a crown, so more of your own tooth stays. That layer does not grow back, so candidacy is checked carefully first.
Preparation and temporary veneers happen during the first visit, then bonding at the second once the lab has made the porcelain. The consultation before that is complimentary, and it commits you to nothing.
Composite veneers, better known as bonding, are shaped on the tooth in one visit and suit a small chip or gap. Porcelain is lab-made and holds its color longer, which suits a whole smile. We help you choose.
Our Process

Step 1
Dr. Magid examines your teeth, gums, and bite, listens to your goals, and tells you whether veneers, bonding, or whitening are an option for you. For veneers, he plans the number, shape, length, and shade, and you receive an itemized quote. The consultation is complimentary.

Step 2
The teeth are numbed, and a thin layer of enamel is removed from the front of each one. A digital scan, not putty, goes to the lab that makes the porcelain. You leave with temporary veneers in the planned shape, and nitrous oxide is available if you are nervous.

Step 3
When the veneers return from the lab, Dr. Magid tries each one in so you can check the color and shape in a mirror before anything is permanent. He then bonds them one by one, checks your bite, and polishes the edges, all in the same visit.

Step 4
Brush and floss as you would your natural teeth, keep your six-month cleanings, and do not bite ice or open packaging with your front teeth. A custom nightguard protects the porcelain if you clench or grind. Coffee and red wine are fine in moderation.

FAQ
What veneers cost in NJ, what happens after 20 years, whether they are permanent, insurance, and the teeth underneath.
A full set is priced per tooth and usually means the six to 10 upper teeth that show when you smile. Porcelain costs more per tooth than composite. We do not publish prices since costs vary from patient to patient. Your itemized quote follows the complimentary consultation, and CareCredit and Cherry can spread the cost.
Four times the per-tooth fee, and four is a common number because it covers the upper front teeth that show most. What the quote includes matters more than the figure, including the design, temporaries, lab work, and bonding visit. Your itemized quote follows the consultation.
Many porcelain veneers are replaced by then, as an edge can chip or the gum line can recede. Replacing one means removing the old veneer, cleaning the tooth, and bonding a new one, usually over two visits. A veneer that chips or comes off sooner is a same-day visit.
The preparation is permanent, but the veneer is not. A thin layer of enamel is removed, so that tooth will always need a veneer or a crown. The veneer lasts many years with a nightguard and regular checkups. Whitening and bonding are reversible options we can discuss.
Rarely, because veneers are cosmetic. The exception is a veneer that repairs a broken or badly worn tooth, which some plans cover in part. We check your plan and show any estimated payment on your quote. CareCredit and Cherry apply, and our membership plan discounts treatment.
They stay alive and can still decay, because the back and edges of the tooth are your own enamel. Brushing, flossing, and six-month checkups matter as much as before. At each checkup, Dr. Magid checks the edge of every veneer, and decay caught early can be treated with a small filling.
